A flexible panel quotation is incomplete if it gives only wattage, dimensions and a maximum bend claim. On an RV, the delivered module must fit a particular roof curve, remain supported and attached in transit, tolerate its installed thermal condition and arrive without hidden cell damage. Ask for evidence tied to the exact panel and roof assembly.
This guide concerns a fixed flexible module installed on the RV roof. A foldable travel panel is a different purchase: it is carried, opened at a campsite and positioned with a stand or other temporary support. For example, Renogy lists its 100W lightweight flexible module for uneven-surface mounting, while its 100/200W portable suitcase range has a foldable case and adjustable kickstands. Freeze the bend geometry for the installed state
Provide a roof cross-section and a module placement drawing. Mark the curve across each axis, the tightest local radius, any compound curvature, roof ribs or unsupported spans, the cable-exit direction and where the panel will sit during installation. Ask the supplier for the exact quoted model's permitted bend direction, installed radius or angle, handling limit and measurement method. A bend claim without an axis or geometry is not a release criterion.
Different manufacturers describe flexibility differently. Renogy advertises “flex up to 240 degrees” for its RNG-100DB-H-US product page. Solbian's installation manual states a minimum recommended curvature radius of one metre for its panels and warns against excessive bending during handling. An angle on a marketing page and a radius in another manufacturer's installation instructions cannot be transferred between models or treated as equivalent installed limits. Request the current model-specific manual and written confirmation that the proposed roof contour is inside its permitted installed geometry. Make the roof and support part of the RFQ
Identify the RV roof manufacturer, membrane or outer-skin material, substrate, roof age and condition, crown profile, movement and vibration exposure, drainage, service traffic, allowed penetrations and warranty constraints. A roof photograph helps locate vents, air conditioners, antenna shadows and cable entries, but the supplier also needs a dimensioned section and a statement of which surfaces can carry the module and its attachment.
A flexible laminate does not make a weak or irregular support acceptable. Solbian instructs users to account for the strength of the supporting structure and says its panels cannot alone withstand loads such as snow or strong wind. Its adhesive guidance distinguishes suitable rigid substrates from non-rigid or flexible ones. Those statements apply to Solbian products; use them as a reason to ask each bidder for the support assumptions of its own proposed assembly. Compare thermal and fastening designs together
A low-profile bond may reduce protrusion but can restrict heat dissipation. Renogy's RV installation guidance describes direct adhesive, tape, raised air-gap and mechanical methods, and notes that a panel against an insulating roof can run hotter. Solbian calls for adequate air circulation on the sun-facing surface. Neither source establishes one required under-panel gap for every flexible module. Ask each supplier to identify its allowed direct-bond or raised configuration, thermal assumptions, spacer material and geometry, drainage and cleaning access. Define the attachment as an assembly, not “adhesive included.” State the roof material and coating, surface preparation, adhesive or tape identity, bond pattern, application temperature, pressure, cure before travel, edge restraint, permitted fastener holes and waterproofing method. Request the panel maker's approval and the roof maker's applicable guidance for that combination. Where mechanical fixing is proposed, require a drawing of hole locations, load path, sealing and fastener retention. Where bonding is proposed, require process and inspection records for the actual substrate. Specify transit and arrival evidence
A panel that passes a factory flash test can still be damaged during packing, shipping, handling or installation. IEC 62759-1:2022 describes transportation simulation for complete PV-module package units; its public scope does not mean that a quoted pack has passed. IEC TS 60904-13:2018 specifies methods to capture and interpret electroluminescence (EL) images. NREL notes that shipping damage may be hard to see and that imaging can identify cell cracks without obvious exterior damage. Request the packaging drawing, orientation and stack limits, restraint against local bending, carton and pallet labels, handling instructions and an agreed arrival-damage process. If EL evidence is required, define whether it is factory pre-pack, post-transit sample, or both; the serial or lot link; image conditions; acceptance method; and who pays for a disputed retest. EL is a diagnostic image, not automatic proof of transport qualification or future performance. Require deviations to be explicit. If a bidder proposes a different laminate, adhesive, support sheet or cable-exit arrangement, obtain a revised drawing and evidence response rather than accepting “equivalent.” The electrical rating, controller interface and connector pair remain separate checks.

No. It describes a particular product page's flexibility claim, without defining your roof's installed axis, radius, support or attachment. Obtain the quoted model's current installation instructions and a written response to the roof drawing.
Can a foldable travel panel be bonded to the roof?
Do not infer that from its portable design. A suitcase's hinges, handles and kickstands serve transport and temporary setup. Ask its manufacturer for explicit permanent-roof approval before treating it as a fixed module.
Must every flexible panel have an air gap underneath?
