Identify the actual bonding surfaces
“Aluminum roof” leaves a critical question unanswered: will the adhesive contact bare metal, factory paint or a later repair coating? Similarly, a fiberglass roof may present a particular gelcoat, while a membrane roof requires its exact manufacturer and product identity.
Record both bonding faces: bracket material and finish, roof coating or membrane, age, condition and cleaning history. Include photographs, drawings and representative samples. Ask the roof manufacturer to confirm attachment compatibility and applicable restrictions.

Turn surface preparation into a controlled procedure
Request a written preparation sequence for the named materials. It should identify approved cleaning products, wiping materials, any abrasion or primer, drying requirements and the permitted interval before bonding. Require compatibility review before a process removes or chemically changes a roof finish.
A generic instruction to “clean thoroughly” is difficult to inspect. Ask what contamination is expected, how cleanliness is assessed and what happens if a prepared surface is touched, wetted or left beyond its permitted waiting period.

For the proposed process, identify bead placement or tape layout, fixtures, spacers and how assembly tolerances will be controlled.
Bracket offset and flexibility belong in the design review. Curing and strength development depend on the selected technology. Require photographs and identification of where failure occurred: within adhesive, at an interface, in a coating or in the underlying construction.
